Description:
AWARE (Animal Welfare Association – Rescue & Education) was founded in 1998 with the aim of reducing the suffering of domestic animals in Guatemala. AWARE rescues abandoned, unwanted, injured, and sick dogs and cats. AWARE operates a no-kill shelter currently housing 300 dogs, 70 cats, 6 rabbits and 1 chicken. The animals are recuperated, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and socialised before being put up for adoption to good homes. AWARE also organises spay/neuter and rabies vaccination clinics in various parts of the country, and school visits as part of its fledgling animal care and environmental education programme.
